1. Confirm the media and operating parameters first
It is recommended to provide the manufacturer with:
Conveying medium and concentration
Operating temperature
Flow rate
Head
Density and viscosity
Solid particle content
Suction conditions
Continuous or intermittent operation time
Among them, flow rate and head determine the basic performance range of the pump. The pump should run as close to the best efficiency point BEP as possible to reduce vibration and energy consumption, and extend the service life of bearings, seals and impellers.
If the pump is selected too large, it will easily cause energy waste; if it is selected too small, it may not be able to meet the process requirements.
2. How to choose materials?
Material compatibility is an important part of chemical pump selection.
Stainless steel pumpSuitable for general chemical solutions, organic solvents and moderately corrosive media.
316L stainless steel has better corrosion resistance and can be used in some highly corrosive, pharmaceutical and chlorine-containing media conditions.
For strong acid, strong alkali and highly corrosive media, corrosion-resistant materials such as PTFE and PVDF can be considered based on the specific chemical composition.
Materials cannot be judged solely based on "acid" or "alkali", but should also be analyzed comprehensively in combination with concentration, temperature and medium composition.
3. Centrifugal pump, magnetic pump or self-priming pump?
Chemical centrifugal pump
It is suitable for continuous transportation, process circulation and industrial fluid transportation. It has the characteristics of mature structure, high efficiency and easy maintenance.
If the media is relatively clean and the operating conditions are stable, it can usually be given priority.
Magnetic pump
The magnetic pump adopts magnetic coupling transmission without traditional dynamic shaft seal, which can reduce the risk of medium leakage from the shaft seal position.
More suitable for:
Toxic media
Flammable media
High purity liquid
Yes Working conditions with high leakage control requirements
Self-priming chemical pumps
It is suitable for situations where the suction conditions are complex and self-exhaust is required to establish suction capacity, such as chemical unloading, sewage treatment and some outdoor transportation systems.
4. Don’t ignore sealing and cavitation
For chemical pumps using mechanical seals, key points should be confirmed:
Whether the sealing material is resistant to media
Operating temperature and pressure
Whether flushing or cooling is required
Continuous operation reliability
NPSH conditions also need to be checked.
Generally, it should be satisfied:
NPSHa ≥ NPSHr + safety margin
If the effective cavitation margin is insufficient, it may lead to noise, vibration, impeller damage and performance degradation. Especially for systems with high temperature media or low suction pressure, cavitation calibration needs to be carried out in advance.
5. When purchasing chemical pumps, don’t just compare prices
The price differences of chemical pumps from different manufacturers usually come from:
Material grade
Pump structural design
Sealing configuration
Manufacturing accuracy
Hydraulic performance
Testing capabilities
Engineering application experience
Low purchase price does not mean low long-term use cost. If leaks, corrosion or downtime occur frequently, maintenance costs tend to be higher.
Therefore, in addition to comparing quotations, buyers should also understand whether the manufacturer has selection capabilities, material control capabilities, hydraulic testing capabilities and custom design experience.
6. Jiangsu Feiyue Pump Industry’s chemical pump solutions
Jiangsu Feiyue Pump Industry can conduct working condition analysis based on the medium, temperature, flow, head, corrosiveness and installation conditions provided by customers, and select appropriate pump types and material configurations for different applications.
Available including:
Stainless steel chemical pump
Corrosion-resistant chemical pump
High temperature chemical pump
Special material pump
Customized industrial pump solutions
From working condition analysis, material selection, pump type confirmation, to manufacturing and performance testing, reasonable engineering selection can reduce the risk of leakage, corrosion and operational failure, and improve the long-term reliability of chemical delivery systems.
For the purchase of chemical pumps, what is really important is not to compare prices alone, but to choose the pump type, material and structure that match the actual medium and working conditions.
